I have most of my tanks currently with double stands, due to wall space. Do any of you know if it is possible to make a 125 gallon stand that can hold 2 tanks? What worries me on this is that on the front if would be a 6' length with no bracing (since you have to put the other tank below it in the stand). I'm thinking that maybe a 4.4 on the front would work, but not sure. What do you all think? Whats the biggest double tank stand that you have built?

U are in luck here's a pic of my 2x6 frame double 125gal stand.

I just went to the lumberyard to price out the wood. Is everyone using pine to build there stands? I kind of wanted oak, but I'm guessing pine is most common for the 2x4s.

Pine is the most common. Oak is MUCH stronger, and looks much nicer finished IMO.

Pine is the cheapest by far, and if you are covering your stand with plywood it does not really matter whats under it. I have seen a poplar stand here, (I have one also), and a few cedar stands. All of these woods are stronger than pine. Even with this, pine is still very strong.

Yup just like that. At the fish store I worked at we had a custom built wood stand. 240g on top and 180g on bot. Its not as hard as you may think.
