125 gallon double tank stand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I stopped by a millwork to see if they could make one, but jazz it up a bit. I probably won't use the millwork, but I wanted to see what ideas they have and also if its worth the cost for me to mess with. I would prefer oak over pine as well, but I will have to use what my lumberyard has.

How did you get the bottom tank in with the lip on it?

Not sure what u are trying to ask here? Oak or any other hardwood construction will cost u a small fortune. Yeah that's pine from lowe's with a maple stain on it i just needed a simple stand i only have 1 show tank it's upstairs a 72 planted the rest of my tanks are in the garage and are just stock tanks with my spawning pairs. If u want to make somthing nice a hardwood stand with a stain and a seal coat plus some mill work designs and medallions and all would be sweet !! I seen some folks here have put MFK designs in a stand and on the canopy's if u search around thier is a ton of pics for insperation if want to put some cash in a stand.

I think the question was more how did you get your bottom tank into place since the opening isn't big enough as you have the Boards locking it in on the front and sides (i'm assuming you either left the back open to slide the tank in or you put the front boards on after you put the tank in)

No i picked up the tank dropped it in from the top the only way in or out is up.

it could pos be 2x6 due to the width compared to the thickness. and 1x4 just wouldnt really make too much sense. it just to week.

i built my stand out of 4x4 but i wanted it to be over built seeing i have a 18" overhang on both sides and then just cover the outside with 3/4" ply then stained it

first pic just set the tank on

second pic after stain and old set up i now have tons more stuff and fish.

hmmmm most people would have put the bigger tank on the bottom... interesting

Yeah you would think that, but the 240 was the main show. Had a tire track eel, some clown loaches, and some other exotic fish. All fish were over 12'' and the eel was about 2 feet..

If you build the stand the proper way the large tank can be on top.. Up to the builder/owner of it..

This is nice. is that 2 x 4 or 1" wood? What size is the tank on the bottom?

The entire stand is 2 by 6s. The top tank is a 75 and the bottom a 125. It was built for 2 125s. The stand it replaced was 2 by 4s and it worked too, but I didn't build it. I have to sleep at night and I lost sleep over 2 by 4s so when I built mine I overkilled. I have seen similar designs for 180s.

No one said it wouldn't work, only an interesting idea to put the bigger one on top... being Top heavy isn't the worst thing in the world I just wouldn't take any quick corners with the tank  Seriously I was only talking about the visual of the Larger tank on top... interesting concept... havn't really considered it personally
