125 Gallon Filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also have 2 under gravel filters? But they are old and are from a 75 gallon tank so they don't really fit well in the 125 gallon tank. Can anyone help me find a good under gravel filter for the 125 gallon tank? Or are under gravel filters not really worth it????

Ive only heard bad things of UGF, id seriously invest in a good canister, i know their expensive but sometimes you can find em on CL or ebay and even on this site.

I run 1200gph on a 90gal, so roughly 14x turnover rate. 1 ac110 1 rena xp4 1 9wattuvc sterilyzer and i still have to clean alot!!

You could keep one 400 on ur 125 but decent filtration is a MUST! H.O.B filters arent the most effiecent method, canisters provide excellent mechanical filtration!!

Goodluck and take ur time, dont just go out and buy the first thing u see, save 20$/week and it 8-10 weeks order that sweet rena xp4 and youll absolutly love it!

skip the ug filter, theyre too hard to clean. try 2 hydor 5 sponge filters, thats PLENTY of filtration when added to your HOBS.if youve got either an air pump or powerhead thats all you need to power them and sponge filters are CHEAP and last forever.

Yeah looks like I am going to take out the UG filter. Any than purchase a canister filter. I don't know which one yet, I am going to shop around. Thanks for all the great advice.

Yeah canisters sorta replaced the UGF years ago.

Now 15-20 years ago, UGF were king.
:D

What about air pumps, or something like that to put oxygen in the tank? Does anyone know a good one to purchase. Or do I need one?

UGF need lots of air. You will need one if your wanting to utilize that type of filter. The air pump usually tubes straight into the filter if I recall.

They are not required outside of that, long as you have a good HOB/canister filter with water movement etc.

All I have is 2 HOB filters. Should I get air pump. Or just wait till I purchase a good canister filter?
