No more or less than anywhere else in the world!
It's a pretty stupid assumption to make.

For overstocked tank from Japan you show me, I bet I could show you the same from your country!

That's not how we do it at all.
JDM is just a made up load of crap.
Japanese domestic market has everything to do with after market car parts, and nothing to do with fish!

Most fish keepers that I know of here in Japan do not over stock tanks!

Not to derail... But the "JDM" concept originally came from the way that japanese fish salesman had heavily overstocked tanks.. but now the JDM idea is entirely different. JDM has a lot to do with japanese culture now. Japan has a fascinating way of cramming a lot of stuff in a small amount of space. People, buildings, fish.. doesn't matter. Its just a phrase, not an insult. JDM when referring to a fish tank is a way of negating aggression amongst many species by overstocking a tank, overfiltrating that same tank, and then overCARING for that tank. JDM is misunderstood, my friend, but this is my take. My tanks will be JDM, I respect those who utilize JDM, and I respect the concept in general. Its controversial, yes. But if done well, it works. It doesnt aim to offend the japanese either! =)

I understand that, and I honestly don't find it offensive.
I just find it annoying that the "JDM" term being used makes no sense whatsoever.
JDM is short for Japanese Domestic Market, referring to motor vehicle 3rd party components.

It was suddenly used (started on these forums I believe) to describe cramming of fish in tanks in Japan!
You say Japanese fish salesmen (LFS?) known for heavily overstocked tanks, but that is an LFS problem worldwide, not just Japan.

Yes now the term refers to how we utilize small spaces here, and indeed is not offensive, but yes we get annoyed as peoplemthat are not in the know automatically think it means us Japanese fish keepers cram our tanks like crazy when they see a (often cruelly) overstocked tank labeled as "JDM".

So no offense taken iHonesty, my beef is when certain members state their unfounded "experience" of Japanese people as a race overstocking fish! (see posts a few above)

yeah. the term is used too loosely on here, and certain folks dont understand the term fully. I didnt know what it meant until i started asking some people who call their tanks JDM. King-El being one. Just let those who use the term incorrectly know what it (unofficially) means!

I would assume the members with unfounded experience you are referring to is me, and that is fine. I apologized if you took offense to my statement but I will only do that one time. I lived in Japan for 5 years traveled around it a fair amount, every place or person I knew or saw that kept fish would be very overstocked. It is my experience not my opinion. I agree people overstock tanks everywhere, but it seems that you are more interested in making a statement. I did not say YOU overstocked anything. If you still have "beef" with me than that is your problem, I stand by what I said.
I have no problem with "JDM" practices most of the tanks and fish I saw were healthy and in reality my tanks are always overstocked according to most people on this forum.
