125 gallon neolamprologus brichardi tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Multis or leleupi would make for a good second species imo. I'd lean towards the latter just for the wow color factor.

(Just don't put leleupi and multis together)

I am still working on setting up this tank and deciding on inhabitants. If I go with the Brichardi are there any other fish I could add that would do well? Personally, I would like to see the territorial displays and aggressive behavior meted out by the Brichardi while spawning/protecting their young without any real harm being done to the other species of fish. I know that Brichardi are rather dangerous when breeding but in such a large tank shouldn't I be able to include another species of fish? If so what would be a good choice? I heard multis would work. Is that true? If so, that would be be fine but I was hoping there would be some others..

Brichardi can be pretty nasty while protecting their young. There is a local car wash that has a large african tank (200+ gallons) with all sorts of cichlids from Malawi and Tanganyika. The brichardi in the tank are able to spawn and raise their fry among cichlids many times their size. As far as mixing them in a large tank with other species, it is all trial and error. What works for someone, may not work for you. They are interesting fish to keep and definitely worth trying. I kept them with large julidochromis for years, but eventually the brichardi killed the julies. The brichardi even started to kill their own offspring when the tank got overcrowded.
