yeah, 1 watt per gallon is fine! It just takes a month for something to grow as much as it would in a week with CO2, but who wants to trim plants every week on top of everything else?

I agree! I'm taking this approach with my 120g, I've got the same setup, a single dual 65w coralife, and using liquid ferts.

What is your dosing regimen like? I'm double dosing flourish excel, do you think that's a bad idea?

double dosing excel flourish is good, and i believe it's a commonly used method to fend off algae growth as well.

i love that set up - it keeps reminding me why i decided to get discus in the first place... to get a planted set up like that! now the cogs in the brain are turning once again

I don't dose with anything.......except fish poop..............there are some flourish root tabs under the swords but I haven't really noticed any significant growth since I put them there. I have 3 or 4 ottos, 2 albino BN plecos, and 10 cory cats for clean up
