I've mixed different geos with severums without any problems. In terms of aggression never had a severum that was too aggressive towards geos, or other fish in general for that matter.
Yeah I agree, most of the sev aggression I see seems to be with other severums.
That stock sounds pretty good though my may have problems with 2 sevs (or you may not, it depends). I'm thinking you could do more tetras but I'm not sure how stocking levels are effected by such little fish so I could be wrong. I would also add a school of cories...
Thanks. Any other suggestions? I really make this tank work so any help is welcome. How do others feel about the stocking...not only the tetras but the rest of the fish too?
I'd really like to keep it to one EBJD if possible and go with two severums instead.
I like the idea of having two types of schooling fish to add a little more variety. How do you guys think this would work?
1 EBJD
2 Severums (heros notatus and super red)
6 geophagus red heads
10 lemon tetras
10 bloodfin tetras
Is this overstocked for a standard 125 or will I be OK in the long run? I'm open to suggestions if not, but I'd like to keep it to these types of fish.
stock sounds good. should be fine for the long run. lemon tetras may be too small though and get eaten down the road. only one way to tell. If they get eaten then buy a bigger species next time.
yeah might want to go with larger tetras though you may get lucky if you put the tetras in first and get all the other fish when they are little so they grow up with the tetras already in the tank, tiger barbs can def take care of them selves but you would need at least 6 for them to not nip the fins of the cichlids and even then they might find the trailers of the geos irresistible, cichlid stocking sounds fine, even in sevs are a pair i would think they would be fine in that long of a tank just make sure you have sight breaks and caves for geos and ebjd to get away if necessary, also if you are getting ebjd from lfs then it will more than likely have parasites so i would start it out in a 10g (or plastic storage tub that you can fit a filter/heater on) and treat it for parasites right away so you wont have to worry about treating your big tank later on GOOD LUCK
I have a severum tank that I use black skirt tetras and rosey barbs for dithers. Rosey barbs are tough, and the orange and green coloration adds some color. I like the Black skirts as well but they dont always school very tight. The small tight schooling fish will get picked off unfortunately
I would look at precox rainbows for a schooling fish too...i was thinking about them in my geo/sev tank. I have some rasboras now and I also have some platinum green tiger barbs in there. Man made color morph...not something I would normally keep...but livefishdirect gave me some when they didnt have the gold barbs I wanted.
