What about a 180 gallon on 1st floor? The house has concrete floors (We build houses differently here ;)).

12 Volt Man,
Are you in the Construction Industry?
I cant say i know too much being 1st year apprentice carpenty & Joinery,
BUT, i called up my father being in the trade all his life and in a post when you mention

"when builders build kitchens, the weight of heavy appliances is taken into account when constructing the floors in that area. the same is done in bathrooms where the bath will be."

That is entirely untrue,
When building a house, appartment any building in general,
Every building comes to a standard of structure.
Kitchen,Bathroom, living room any room has the same flooring and weight structure,
they dont add in extra weight bearers, joists just because its a kitchen with appliances or bathroom with the bath shower or basin.

Im agreeing with you with your statement on the fridge,
No fridge will weightout a fishtank, 125gallon+ tank anyways.

Personally, I would definetly not situate the tanks close being 1m or so apart,
Pretty much just be carefull, seek out possible some proffessional advice,
Every building is different, layout, structure its all unique
Just keep in mind if that tank does fall through then wat?
brr i dunno wanna imagine
I really wish you luck
Should be fine :)
Falls through though WE WANT PICS!
hehe take care

re kitchens and live loads:

there was another article about aquarium weights on the web a few years ago that i am trying to find that specifically talked about this.

obviously, it may have been written based on old standards, or perhaps different standards (eg. european or something)

but it obviously doesn't apply now. or, it could have been just flat out wrong. I dont know.

that being said, it still doesn't mean that a 300g tank can put put anywhere.

The way I see it, both sides of this arguement are saying the same thing...

You will most likely be able to put the 125 gal in your upstairs apartment... just be cautious about placement and think things through...

No reason to argue/debate on this one...

It's never safe to give a blanket "yes it's safe" answer to this question... placement does matter... and the integrity of the building in question does matter...

and I think we have or at least can all agree on this...

yup there are many factors . and in my apt i talked to the builders to find out the best placement and where the best support was and even got the OK from them to put the 300 Gal tank in the apt on the 3rd floor as long as it was along a exterior wall and running against the floor supports

lol I saw that but was unfamlilar with the east's building standards I know in AZ there is no difference, then again we use a floor truss system on multi level houses, not floor joists. (3rd fattest state)

so it really would depend on how the place is constructed. for what I've seen most will be able to hold a 125g tank when palced correctly, above that you will want to have it inspected.

Yea but the topic at hand is concerning the Oringal Poster's 125 gal tank... not your 300 gal...
