I'm looking for guidance for a good setup for a 125g 6' aquarium. I have a peacock bass and a red bay snook and a pleco. I am aware I will need a larger tank in the very near future. What should I use?

I’d do 2 canister filters or add a overflown box and 40g tank for a sump and pump. Sun sun filters or fx6 will work depending on ur budget. Do what ull be able to take care of.

That sounds good I have a sunsun 5000 and a fluval 407. I'm not sure about substrate I'm thinking maybe tile?

Tile is fine but it could trap debris and waste. If it gets disturbed then water quality can get bad fast.

I would skip the canisters and just set up a sump. You can easilly switch out the mechanical media as it soils and build up some effective bacteria with whatever media you prefer. This is a pic of my simple sump. It pipes to an external pump for my 6 foot tank. Adding an overflow to an existing tank is super easy as well.
