what would be something else that could go with the silver dollars and a few firemouths in my 125?

Severum I guess, what else though? Geos, or are they not hardy?

Something hardy whatever it is.

I have Firemouths with Blue Acaras, bamboo shrimp and Loaches and they do great, no aggression whatsoever. The dominant Firemouth is a little aggressive towards his own species but he doesn't bother the Acaras (or any other fish) at all.

In the future I might try to add a single male EBJD since they're not as "though" as regular dempseys, but I think even a normal dempsey would do fine with them as long as there's enough space.

Other fish I considered were Severums, convicts, "threadfin acara" and sajicas

the fish dont kill the shrimp, I dont believe it lol.

Well they do eat ghost shrimp but ignore the bigger -but harmless- bamboo shrimp. Other cichlids like Green Terror or Oscars would rip the shrimp apart even if it didn't fit in their mouths.

I know the shrimp I just thought the firemouth would go after it, or at least torment it.

I think geos would be fine but how hardy are they really?

never kept a geo, but i had a severum one a green sev that was big and it lived through alot of sh*t with my green terror and oscar

Yeah Ive had severums all growing up, they were the one fish however if I didnt stay up on the water change that would gape before all the other fish to let me know I was messin up. They must be a little more sensitive.

I love sevs though, just wanted maybe something I haven't done in the past like geos or firemouths, but I want a group of them ya know. However I dont want a constant killing ring going on.

A "group" of Firemouths will torment each other constantly (no matter how big the tank is) until you get a mated pair and they (probably) kill the rest of the group. I have 4 and they're constantly chasing each other (The biggest one took half of the tank and the other 3 fight for the other half). They completely ignore other fish but are very annoyed by their own species.

This is weird because in the small LFS tank they were very peaceful and quiet but once I took em home they got territorial. I guess they had nothing to fight for in the empty 10 gal box lol

I started with 2 Firemouths but since the bigger one was making the other miserable I decided to buy 2 more in hope of giving the smaller fish a chance to "blend in", kinda like the method used for African Cichlids... but now the smaller one is chasing the "new" smaller fish and it's basically a never ending cycle.

The good thing about it tho is that you get a lot of gill flaring, constant movement and the dominant male will color up really nicely... you would get none of this by keeping a single Firemouth. They also never seem to really hurt themselves... it's more like the "barking dog that never bites" thing.

Geos would work fine
