I have only kept them twice. I have a group of four I'm growing out now. My experiance with them has been they are tough as nails and will hold there ground against fish larger than them selves but unlike Convects are mellower and less aggressive in as much as they don't go looking for trouble and if left alone pretty much mind there own bussiness. Conspicific aggression can be pretty rough sometimes if terratorial boundries or breeched. IMO they are very nice looking, active fish in a mid sized package, one male would be a nice addition.

Convicts too troublesome? As bad as Africans like johanis and such jerks?

Only if they spawn

And they will... even if you put a single convict it will mate with a Firemouth
