okay so I got a 125 gallon with two overflows in the corners. However I am really not familiar with overflows. What do I need to do set this tank up? Sorry I'm guessing this might have a long answer to it but I could really use the help. Is there an advantage to overflows if so what is it? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

can you post pics so we can see what style they are?

well depends on if you want to run a wet dry sump setup or not. Its easier and much cheaper to run 2 AC 110 HOB filters and just plug the overflows. Otherwise you need to get some bulkheads, a Mag 9.5/mag 12 and a wet dry filter to run the overflows.

It may be easier, but that's not the best way to go in this hobby. If it has overflows I highly suggest using them for a wet/dry.
You can also make a wet/dry for the same price as two AC 110s

:iagree: W/D's all the way. If you overcrowd temp, then hang on a HOB to mechanical filter.

a mag 12 alone is 90$ plus shipping. PVC and the parts to make the WD will run ya another 70$++ with ball valves, pipe, connectors, bulkheads, scrubbies, prefilter quilt material, sump, sterilite 3 drawer cubby, etc.

Thats ~$150++ or 4x AC 110's @40$ each from petsmart.

I went WD but they arent as cheap as ppl keep saying. Much cheaper than a FX5 still though.

My wet/dry+pump+media cost me $90. I recomend utilizing the overflows and making a wet dry.

Even with 4 AC110s you still don't have bio-filteration to speak of, flow rate thru filters is too high.

i think a sump is the best way to go, period. hobs are to damn small, even emeprror 400's are not enough to me, 400gph, but the space it traves through is nothing. a huge ass sump or bin or whatever is better any day. better filtration, more water space, beter overall. i recommend a sump/homemade filter of any kind over store bought filters. he has overflows built in, use them.
