125G Gladiator Tank - Vieja, Polleni, Cuban, GT?

People discouraging these threads are basically encouraging bad decision making. Hobbyists post these threads looking for experienced help, some listen to that help such as myself, others don’t.
Interesting interpretation, to be sure. By commenting on the preponderance of threads asking about potentially troublesome tank stocking ideas...am I really encouraging bad decision making? I think that's a bit of a stretch, but...as you say, to each his own.

When ten people attempt a particular combination of fish species, and nine of them end in disaster...does the fact that one of them seemed to succeed prove that it's a good idea? Or does it illustrate the fact that the odds are stacked against success? Either way, is pointing this out such a sin?

I couldn't possibly have known that you intend to listen to critical comments, simply because so many others don't do that. They start threads asking questions to which they want to hear specific predetermined answers. If/when those answers are not forthcoming, butts become inflamed. Expecting me or anyone else to magically "know" that this case will be different isn't realistic. We have to go by past experience with similar threads.

You've made it apparent that you do indeed intend this thread to be different. Maybe it will...I hope it will...but I guess we'll see. Good luck to you and your fish!

Great job, once again crushing someone’s dream aquarium one post at a time since 2019!

Slightly different thread title...different username...small variations in stocking list...but, all in all, this thread appears on an almost daily basis. Tiresome.

duanes duanes usually needs to correct the sometimes laughable mismatches of species with regard to water conditions. Apparently the keepers of Bad Ass Fishes rarely ever consider subtleties like pH, hardness, etc...but they always know a list of aggressive fish species that simply must be jammed together into a too-small tank in an attempt to create a knife-edge uneasy truce...for reasons that remain a mystery to many folk, myself included.

The fish tend to be purchased at a smallish size, sometimes with the proviso that some will be re-homed as they grow and their bad-assedness becomes an issue. Often these tanks will work after a fashion, for awhile, until somebody grows up and the hormones take hold. Then we sometimes hear that such-and-such fish got a little beat up last night, so tonight when I get home from work I might think about maybe removing him...except when the hopeful fishkeeper gets home from work, he finds that the problem has been solved for him, and often a couple more have appeared. Or sometimes, we never hear from the poster again.
every time i see the 1 millionth 125/150/180/210 with JD, texas/carpintis, green terror, some token vieja/parachromis/amphilophus, cuban, severum/chocolate/parrot, some kind of hybrid, maybe an oscar, maybe a macaw, polleni, festae, firemouth, electric blue acara, and a pair of convicts

You guys are bullies...

It sure would be nice if every poster did extensive research on their own and came here to ask questions refining their final decisions, instead of starting with wild ideas. But a lot of people prefer conversation to research. So they come here first.

If you don't want to help them, just don't. But mocking them for asking questions is just being a bully.

No wonder forums like this died out.

Oh dear...offense has been taken. I wish I could react as I'm apparently hoped to react, but offense crops up so rapidly, so often, in so many situations, that it's difficult to always worry about it. It's like mushrooms on a shady lawn after a rain; can't get worked up about it because it's simply inevitable.

If people prefer conversation to doing any actual research themselves...if they ask for opinions...then they must accept that not every conversation will go the way they want it to go, not every opinion will coincide with the ones they want to hear. If commenting that a particular question has been asked AGAIN is so offensive to some...if that's "bullying"...not sure what should be done. Must those reading the question simply clam up, and perhaps tell the questioner whatever they want to hear? How is that doing anybody any good?

In the age of the ultra-sensitive New Age human who is so easily offended, how can we exchange opinions and information? We can't all agree; if we did, there'd be no point in talking about anything. I ignore the bulk of these repetitive "What tankmates with my Oscars in a 30-gallon?" type questions because they're just too painfully repetitive; but commenting on their repetition is "mocking".

Is that why forums are withering away? Or is it just because forums are not bright and trendy? The kool kids always need something new and shiny to highlight their coolness, and forums aren't it. A forum also doesn't provide that "safe space" that so many today require to deal with such horrible things as disagreement; there's always going to be somebody who, heaven forbid, dares to say "no", and that isn't well accepted even though it's just a differing opinion, no more or less valid than any other.

Is that attitude killing the forum? Or is it simply a convenient excuse to explain the decline of something whose time has passed? There are those among us who, when told that we must walk on eggshells to prevent the forum from disappearing...simply won't do it.
