In a while I'm getting a 125 gallon aquarium and I was wondering what adequate filtration for the aquarium would be. I have 1 9" oscar 1 4" JD 1 8" Clown Knife 1 full size senegal bichir and 2 8" common plecos. The tank comes with a Rena Xp3. Is this enough?

The Oscar and JD will get bigger, not crazy big but bigger. The clown can get pretty big from what I hear. The senegals I have never see poop and eat all of their food so their nothing really. The plecos will get 24 inches or bigger when their done. So with this stock over time, you will need more. Another XP3 or FX5 would be ideal. BUT for now, your fine. Keep up with WC's and in 6 months I would get another filter IMO.

im not a fan of canister filters but i have 3 emperor 400 for my 150 the center one has a longer tube. with that stock i would want much more

A canister filter draws water from the tank into a pressurized media chamber where it is forced through the media and then returned into the tank

They can be filled with a variety of mechanical, biological, and chemical media

Very easy to use but cleaning can be a pain

Get a fluval fx5 and throw a couple sponge filters in. A lot of your fish will soon outgrow a 125 though... Especially the clown knife and the plecos.

Don't even mess around with anything but a canister or sump on a tank over 100 gallons.

mmk thanks! also how does the xp3 work though? like its not a waterfall pump right?

I own two xp3s. They are OK but the fluval fx5 is the best large canister for the money in my opinion. Also, one xp3 will have a hard time keeping up with a 125. I have an xp3 on my 33 gallon!
