Yes, The GT Could grow to 12''. JD Will grow 8'', 10'' Max. With the proper filtration and weekly water changes you'll be good.
 
I would say it depends on the individual fish. Some could some can't. If they are not real aggressive they will be okay if you are willing to keep up the tank. If some of them are very aggressive you will have problems. All fish are different. When mature some do not get along well in a close enviroment with other fish. Some times GT's and JD's just don't like each other. It is a wait and see type of thing with fish. You can never say for sure.
 
i've yet to see a JD at 10" and i've been keeping tropicals for over 25 years ! maybe american JD's are bigger than uk ones ? ours only make around 8" max maybe slightly larger,i think you will be fine with that tank

I've personally seen JD's 12".I've seen 3 in 20 yrs,so they aren't what You would call common but they do get that big.

I've only been in the hobby for about 6 years but I've seen in person, atleast 3 jds over 8" and one of them was easily 12". Maybe it depends on the local area. Also, 3 of the jds will be ebjds, which i never seen one over 6".
 
i think with good filtration, and water changes they should be ok.
