13 bass to start

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The plan is to house the 6 Orinos and 2 intermedia on my 535 with the four Crenicichla Zebrina, a flagtail, a black aro, and 8 Satanoperca Daemon. The 280 will hold the Kelberi with Crenicichla Multispinosa, five geophagus Altifrons, and a Flagtail.

Great looking setup!

I would be careful though mixing all those pbass with some of those smaller fish...the Satanoperca and Geophagus will become expensive feeders and will get bullied by the much larger pbass for sure. You'd be better off grouping those two together with the Multispinosa and moving that Kelberi in with the other pbass.

Thanks everyone.

amazonfishman amazonfishman i think you’re right. The daemon are apparently five inches and I’m hoping they’ll grow fast enough but my concern is the same as yours.

I don’t want to mix the kels with the others since the 535 will be a Columbia theme tank. May end up getting rid of the Geo’s as I want pikes and bass in both tanks.

Great looking setup, love the Zebrina!

Personally I wouldn't mix the Satanoperca in with the Cichla, same goes for the Geophagus. They are going to end up being expensive snacks for the pbass in the long run, they are less aggressive and grow much slower. I'd take those guys and put them with the Multispinosa where everyone will play nice in a community tank setup and shift the Kelberi in with the other pbass in the big tank.

I ran a similar smaller setup (240) with Cichla Mono "Lake Diamante", Crenicichla Atabapo I, Rotkeil Severums, Flagtail Prochilodus, and some big SA Catfish species without any issues. The Rotkeils though are a lot more aggressive than the Satanoperca or Geophagus and taller body shape made them harder to eat...but when my pbass started pushing 16"+ the Severums were getting beat up and I ultimately removed them.

Very nice 280 looks great! mrrobxc mrrobxc I had a couple of geos with my cichla in a previous setup they did great I don’t remember the type but they were large and were aggressive feeders ate massivore. I have not tried it again but I love the idea of geos with cichla.
