135 gal SA stocking ideas

Over the years I’ve noticed with various cichlids that once they start breeding they become less and less tolerant of other tank mates. It only gets worse as they mature and start protecting fry.

My tank is fully cycled now and it's time to start adding some more fish. I'm going to pickup some red head tapajos but I'm not sure how many to add.i know with geos groups of 6 or more is recommended but is it a must or could a do less? My final stock plan is 2- severums, 4- red head tapajos 1-threadfin acara and 10 tetras of some kind. Would the 4 red heads work or should I forget the threadfin and go with 6 red heads

4 red heads should be fine.
Personally I like to see them in numbers just because they look so good in a group together.
If it were my tank I think I would just go with one severum and keep the threadfin. Threadfin are stunning when mature. It's also been my experience that severum can be hard on each other unless they are a mated pair. This just may have been the ones I've kept but I've tried severum in groups a few times and have always found them surprisingly hard on each other.

I already have a pair of severums in the tank and they laid eggs within days of being introduced to the tank. If they become overly aggressive I will remove one of them. I think I may get the threadfin and 6 of the tapajos and remove fish later if/when pairs are formed. Any suggestions for tetra for my setup? I know some species can be fin nippers.

When I got home from work I noticed that the severums had laid another batch of eggs. Is it possible to keep a breeding pair in a community set up or will they end up killing everything else in the tank?

I have a breeding pair of Severum in my 125 with 6 Red Head Tapajos, another Severum and an EBA (and tetras/few other fish) and while the breeding pair are dicks, they've never come close to killing anyone.

Can't guarantee your Severums won't be insane because each fish has a unique personality though.

Sounds like your stocking is similar to my plan. I will just hope for the best with my breeding pair in the community .
