I'm cycling a 135 Gal now so I have a few weeks to try and plan this out a little. The more I read here, the less fish I start to think I can keep. I really don't want WW3 in this tank. Or fish with no fins :) So, I'm thinking....Synspilum, Green Terror, Blue Convicts (hate the pink ones), Chocolate, Blackbelt, 5-6 Clown Loaches, a Pleco. I'm guessing get 3-4 of each at 1-2", let em grow up together, and hopefully end up with 1 of each, maybe 1 or 2 breeding pairs, and a crew of CLs. Do I have a reasonable chance of a peaceful tank? Could a pair breed with that many fish in a 135G?

Definite maybe on breeding but once the fish reach adulthood the syn and bb could pose problems. Especially for the chocolate ....

I thing think peaceful will ever be a word associated the the stocklist.....

Blackbelt is pretty aggressive? How bout if I skip that and put Red Severum instead?

Thats not a bad stocking really. The severum would be fine. Get the fish as juvis and that will give you the best chance at a peaceful community.

So....Syns, GT's, Convicts, Chocolates and Severums? Would the Chocolate and Severum get whooped later? Or could it work out? I know it's hard to say, other factors come into play, but I just don't want to try it with NO CHANCE of success. And is Chocolate/Severum South American while Syns/GTs/Convicts are Central American?

I WOULD LEAVE the syn's out of that stocking maybe try brasilliensis ...or something like a nic,, a p.o.ed syn will be tough for that crew to handle,, it could work,IMO, just not LIKELY with syn  ....an alternate stocking might be syn OR black belt, gt,,and a couple of same sex cons,, that might be a real fun tank ,, although I would prob leave out the loaches and try something a little quicker(danio's or sd's)

Personally, I think 2 12" Viejas are not going to work in there. Especially with the other fish too. They can be very territorial. Gt's are SA, so maybe focus on some other smaller sa cichlids.

Yes there is a good chance that blackbelt is going to beat up the synspilum. Both Viejas (or whatever they changed the genus/family to this week), both same max size while blackbelts are much tougher.

I would get the blackbelt with 3 male convicts and leave it like that. But a GT might work with that stock as well, even though it is SA. Green Terrors stay way smaller then blackbelts although you might get the idea that they have the same max size if you read on the internet.

dont try to breed anything in a community setting, youl end up with a bunch of scared fish in one corner of the tank. otherwise try stocking with young fish and let them grow together. have fun
