Getting my new tank in a weeks time.. my dream tank.. sold my 75 gal and selling my 55 gal to get this.. Just wanted to know.. would 2 AC500 filters do the job or should I go with 3 of them ?

IMO 2 AC500s won't be enough. Instead of getting a third AC500, you might want to consider a cannister filter.

I run a 125 with 1 400 gal marineland hang on and a 75-gal canister. so far so good, though the fish i have arent especiallly messy

I run my 135g with an AC 110, AC 70 and a Rena XP3.
Everything is a ok.

can never have to much filtration in my opinion. i have 2 empo 400 and a canister and 2 eco aqualizer things and do big ass power heads that have little sponges on them

I have had canister filters.. fluval's actually.. I found that the tubing always got plugged too fast.. find the AC 's easier to clean.. just want to know how many to go with.. where I live .. I can't get those canister filters listed here... Eheim , Empo, Emperor..

www.liveaquaria.com. I just bought a Fluval 404 from them that was only about $99. Cheaper than a Fluval 305 at PetSmart, which was $135. I had an Emperor 280 on my 45g community tank that worked up until the pump blew. I would have ordered a Fluval from liveaquaria, but I don't like my fish to go more than a day without filtration. But I replaced an Emperor 400 on my 55g. And I replaced an AC500 with the Emperor. When I added the Fluval on either tank, I noticed they looked even cleaner. I also have air bars which oxygenate the water well and provide some movement. I'm happy with my Fluvals.

I got my Eheim from PetBlvd.com
AC's may be easier to clean (I know, just throw out the pad), but it would be even easier not to have a tank :WHOA: . We should strive for what's best for our fish, not what's the least work for us ;) Seriously, check out the link I posted above, maybe that makes you think.
Tips against clogged tubing: Remove it from direct sunlight, reduce your feeding and increase water changes. All that will prevent build-up. Get a cleaning brush or use a cloth and some electric cable to clean them in regular intervals, when you clean the filter. Or, best of all, get a decent filter that has wide tubing. I had the Eheim 2228 myself, and the tubing is plenty wide. The filter ran for a year at a time without me having to clean the tubing. And even after a year it wasn't necessary, but I thought it was time.

Just food for thought ...
