Hey everyone could I get away with adding 4 silver dollars I've suddenly really started to love the fish they just add some extra movement and I think they would look great In my tank! Any opinions are appreciated its a 6 foot 135 gallon tank currently filtered with 2 sponges 2 sea Chem tidal 110s and a marineland penguin 350 i also perform 2 30 percent water changed weekly current stock is

1 Firemouth cichlid
1 tiger oscar
1 featherfin syno
1 jack dempsey

Thanks for any input!

That's a lot of fish with the silver dollars. They are endless vacuums that produce quite a bit of waste. If you are doing 2 x 30% per week, I would double that to keep nitrates below 20ppm if you plan on adding silver dollars and the other fish reach full size. I had 5 x 5-6" SDs (which made my other fish skittish) and noticed a dramatic reduction in nitrate production when I removed them.

Just a note silver dollars act differently in groups of 8+.

Thanks for both opinions I just think something else would look good any suggestions besides silver dollars to be added or would you really just leave it as is?

I second leaving it alone. What you can do and what will make life easier are not always the same. If you have to have something that adds some motion here are a few options in order of how likely they are to work: Buenos Aires tetra, mustache danio, giant danio, Australian rainbows, mollies, swordtails, black skirt tetras, rosy barbs. All of these have the potential to become a meal. If you are putting them with the JD and Oscar when they are too young to eat them, they probably won't eat them when they grow up. None of these are so expensive it will crush the bank account if you lose a few. I would recommend having some décor that acts as a refuge for these fish. At max size it should be uncommon for you to lose many of them. You want a decent sized school of whichever one you choose so that they have the protection in numbers. Don't get 5 and wonder why it didn't work.

I would agree with what's been said. You can do the silver dollars just adds quite a bit of bioload I have almost the same stock in my tank just with a bonus convict and I really like it. I would leave it alone or maybe add a convict that's about it though.
