135 gallon filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2x 406, CFS 700, fx5 2x CFS 500. Any of those combos would work in my book. There will be a lot of poop in your tank so do at least weekly 50% WCs.

What is your budget for another filter ?

Rena XP4 --- $150.00
Fluval FX6 --- $340.00 (recommended)
Eshopps Wet 'n dry w/ pump --- $350.00

Keep in mind your stock will get quite large so investing in a large filter is desirable.

BTW, Fluval 406 is good only up to a lightly stocked 75 gallons from my experience.

If you plan on putting that heavy of a bio load on that go with a Fluval FX5 or an equivalent eheim filter. It may sound like overkill but that will be a heavily stocked tank even when they are still growing.

my LFS said a Fluval 406 is suitable for a 135 gal tank... although it says its only rated up to 100 gallons. is this true?

DIY filter system..Goig to tARGET YOU CAN BUY $40 WIRTH OF THE STUFF AND BUILD A diy wet/dry filter.......The pump costs' range is $75-99..........Filter media should be sponges and filter floss......Buy a 60g plastic container for shoes you put into storage...This is the base of the filter......A plastic 3 drawer is the tower for the filter in which the water flows through and is filtered.......PLacing bamboo in the base would also help in the chemical filtration.................

My suggestion is a Fluval Fx6 Or 5 or maybe make a very easy and cheap DIY K1 moving bed filter with a filter sock and that's probably better than 2 Fx6s. Pretty sure there are a lot of threads regarding the moving bed filter.
