I personally keep air stones in all my tanks for a number of reasons, but one is so that if the filter does stop for some reason (equipment does fail) the water is still moving and well aerated.

Sponge filters run on airpumps do all of that but do it better. ;)

Yeah, owned it for all of a few days now?

I agree, money is better spent on a large canister.

Your such a butt, Jeff. ...;)

Yes, that may be true.. but I noticed the differece immediately... it just confirms all the good things lots of people have to say about it..

Adding a sponge filter instead of just an air stone is a good idea, but the main purpose is that the tank is aerated if a filter pumps stop running. This is true whether it is an air stone or sponge filter.

Thanks guys I found a seller on ebay that has fx5's for 275.00 with shipping to canada and will order one soon. I feel better when I know water is turning over alot.

Alot of people worship Eheim canisters but I dont like the fact that the dont push much water. All that money and you get weak GPH happening.
