135 Oceanic Build!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks
I have got about 220 lbs live rock, same size tank and 40 gal sump. be careful adding the extra live rock. I would almost cure it first and add it slowly. what kind of light do you have in your sump?

With 220lbs of LR in a 135 do you have any readings on any of your tests? lol

75w CF flood lamp ("natural daylight"), 5500k, in fuge. In a month or so I will replace it with a spiral CF. The flood was great for the chaeto experiment since it's a focused beam. but now that I have the algae scrubber up and running I need more of a spread out beam to hit the sheet, which I can get with the spiral bulb.

Yeah luckily I do not have a phosphate problem. only nitrates atm.

ph 8.35 amonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 30-35 ( due to taking out bio media and caused a cycle to happen, prior that it was always 10-20) salinity 1.025 calcium 450. just wondering by your comment now though what is the deal with too much LR? I was told that 2 lbs per gallon was good, my total water volume is about 170 gallons so i got roughly 1.5 lb per gallon.

I didnt mean you had too much. I meant you have some good bio filtration with that much rock. 2lbs per gallon is VERY good.

Yeah 2lbs per gallon is awesome. Wish I had that much...the tank would look awesome as well.

that was my thinking on it as well. just took it like it was a bad thing and wanted to know the reason for it. i started with a 55 so it was a gradual build big country. had about 80 lb in that and then got another 140 lbs when i set up the 135 gal. actually got it on ebay. cured it first and added it to the tank.

Ya that's definitely the way to do it. It's a lot less costly that way. Sorry if I sounded arrogant or anything.

So the guy I bought the small softies and LPS from text messaged me today and said he was breaking down his tank and getting out.....having looked at his tank I knew what his best pieces were. :D

Scored a x-large red bubble tip anemone attached to a x-large piece of rock (filled a 5g bucket) and 2 mature MATED clown fish hosting the anemone!

Also picked a x-large toad stool coral attached to a decent piece of rock and a skunk cleaner shrimp.

Tonight has been a blast. Might be the best night I have enjoyed so far with the hobby watching everything respond to this small world I have created in my kitchen.....
