Just as a heads up, if you decide to get a fire eel, make sure to cove your tank EXTREMELY well, even the openings to where you water inlet/outlet are for your tank (if its a closed system)... since mine managed to escape my 200G twice, and on the 2nd time i found it dead...
 
IMO there arent many predators that you can house in a 140 for life. Oscars of course, and im sure there are others but none that i would really call predators.

eg, aligator gar, peacock bass, aro's, snakehead, etc none can stay in a 140 for life.

fire eel is prob your best option. fire eel and an oscar maybe?? with lots of filtration.

or bite the bullet and admit like the rest of us, there will always be a need for a bigger tank sooner or later lol.
