145g CA setup

After reading alot and measuring, I decided to take a new 145gallon tank.

The new tank will be placed next to my 125g tank:

I will close the hole so the two tanks look like one big tank:

So now about the setup, I want to breed with these CA's. So i was thinking about 3 possibilities:

1. Proven couple Cichlasoma salvini with a group of Hemigrammus caudovittatus.

2. Proven couple Cryptoheros Nigrofasciatus with a group of Hemigrammus caudovittatus.

3. Proven couple Archocentrus centrarchus and proven couple Herotilapia multispinosa with a group of Hemigrammus caudovittatus.


Which of these 3 setups would give me the best chance to get some breeding going? And which of these 3 setups would look the best in my tank?

IMO I think th salvinis would be better, just a matter of getting a pair. The others you may be able to do multiple pairs

You could aqua scape it to look like the two tanks connect, flow into one another.

that would look sick.

@90cat: Well getting a proven pair is not that hard. I found a store that sells proven pairs of all the species I want.

Multiple pairs with Cryptoheros Nigrofasciatus? I thought they were very agressive?


@ Szar: I could try that yes, would be neat if I succeeded in doing that.

I wonder if it will be a better idea to move the fish in your 125G to the 145G as they all would love a larger tank (esp. the Oscars).

Also, all three options you mentioned aren't very spectacular.. when compared some of fish you already have (The Uaru sp. are really rare in my part of the world.)

If you have to choose between the three options, Archocentrus centrarchus & Herotilapia multispinosa look the most interesting..

I voted for "Something else"... Have you thought about something like Hoplarchus psittacus??

I might put the O and the Uaru's in the 145G, because they indeed need more space now they are getting bigger.

And the fish im mentioning might not be spectacular, but they have nice coloration. And I just want to have some breeding experience with a easy breeding fish before I go for the more difficult species.

According to the webby im using to see the size of fish etc, Hoplarchus psittacus will get 35cm and needs a 250cm length tank.

With the two tanks looking like they are connected you are making for an awesome show tank. Show off your fish, dont make them baby makin factories.

What's wrong with nice fish that breed?
I already have a full stocked tank with larger fish. I cba to have two of the same tanks.
