He is still swimming upside down. I have him isolated in a 20 gallon hospital tank. Is this swim bladder? If so, is there anything I can do?

That is different than you first described, upside down is a lot worse than a "tail up" position. Your fish has real problems.

Buying big fish can be a risk, you bought a big dovi that did not travel well also, right?

If this is true, we need to look into how you are transporting these fish and why they are comming out so bad off!

Swimbladder / Bloat best of luck to ya. You more than likely did this by dumping him into the new tank water without giving proper acclimation of new water chemistry. How long did you leave this fish in the original transport container while adding water from the new tank? And how often / much water did you add from new tank to container? Large fish dont just bloat and float because you drove them around town unless you did some seriouse altitude change like from the plains into the mountains in a few hours drive.
If this is not the first time that this has happened you need to look at all factors, but my guess would be premature introduction into new tank.

The huge dovii traveled fine, he died because of a screw up I did during a water change. I live in a rural area and move lots of fish. This is the first time I have seen swim bladder type issues. I think you might be right about the acclimation issue. I also went up 3,000 feet in elevation. Regardless, is he a lost cause? What steps do you suggest I take to increase the chances of saving him?
