15" Umbee Sick Help!

IME kanamycin (both in feed and in water) has not worked. It will knock the infection back but it didn't kill my strain. Guess I have a superbug. I also tried malachite green, nitrofurantoin, oxytetracycline, and sulfathiazole.

I might be wrong, but if I recall erythromycin works a bit better according to Dr. Noga.

But I went with salt. I read some of those articles in the past and I just raised my salinity to levels high enough to kill it. I said to hell with the plants (but many made it through) and hoped most of the fish would be fine. There may have been a better option, but considering I want to sell fish from this tank I figured it would be unethical of me to release what I believe to be a superbug into the hobby. Not to mention it would be messed up to do that to the store owner, who could pass the disease on to hundreds of people.

It most certainly does appear to be a case of flexibactor columnaris. Personally I would not treat with metro. See the articles below for more info on this disease & how best to treat it.

LOL, it's not exactly a black & white scenario, as there are numerous strains of this bacteria, but I believe that various medications/treatments have been posted in this discussion, as well as links to others.

Perhaps you should READ THEM, and then proceed how you best see fit.
