LOL!!!!! I just thought to myself.....What the hell am I doing here??????

You are not lying about the seafood............Dude if I went I would have an Asian Aro Pond, 3 hot filipinas and alot of drinks. Oh yeah not to mention armed guards.........they will kipnap you in a second.

If you don't hang around Metro Manila or the Southern islands you're pretty much safe. Zamboanga is the scariest! Just don't flash alot of cash or expensive jewelry. I am always accompanied by "my Filipino entourage" (LOL!) while I'm there anyways. I stay out of bars anyways, and drink at home. My Filipino wife takes VERY good care of me! :naughty: The locals really watch out for me too. The secret is to be nice to them and make alot of friends. You don't have to buy them anything just show them some respect and kindness. It goes a long ways.

The problem with the "pond idea" is that it gets almost too hot there! You have to have a way to keep the pond from getting too hot. Fish farms there do it by constantly pumping well water through their system, but that cranks up the electric bill! Discus would do great outside, but try and find good Discus food!

what kinds of fish are native to PI?

"Tonnage" of saltwater fish are there as there are literally thousands of islands in the Philippines. I can't find my freshwater chart website for the Philippines right now, but there are alot of cool brackish water fish (small flounders and gobies) and.......there has been alot of fish farming there in the past, so......if you seine a ditch, creek, or river you find alot of leftovers! (Kind of like Florida)I had a 'local" seine a large drainage canal ($3 for a whole day!) and he brought me alot of plecos, some pikes, swordtails, gouramies, and some misc.

There is an area just North of Manila that has a tropical fish "mall" with easily 200+ stores/stalls! And another 100 that sell animals, birds, and reptiles of all kinds! It took me almost 3 hours just to see everything! It's called Cartimar. Tons of fish! The exchange rate now is around 47 pesos (Philippine pesos) plus to the U.S. $.

This video doesn't do Cartimar justice, but gives you an idea:

Sorry Tonymofo! I kinda hijacked your RHOM thread!

Looking for some advice. How do you care for a Rhom??? Meaning, tank maintenance, feeding, heating, etc. With its natural slow growth rate, what would it take to grow a Rhom from 3 in. to 10 the fastest? (and please don't tell me Viagra)

80+ temp., super clean water, low stress, water changes, a good diet, and a large tank!
