Weight will be distributed evenly due to gravity, so you should go by lbs/sq ft not total weight, if the lbs/sq ft are in-line with a smaller tank and that smaller tank doesn't scare you don't worry about the larger tank. Remember the average man is 200lbs and his feet are less than 1 sq foot, so if the thought of having 6 buddies over worries you that your house is going to collapse than the fish tanks should be the least of your worries.

That's what I wanted to hear. I just wanted a little back up for piece of mind. Youre right about my buddies. Theres a lot of my friends into powerlifting and 6 of us would probably outweigh a 180 lol. Plus the way some of these stands are made really make me see the true strength of wood products. Im gonna take some pics of the tank tonight

Just figured I'd go back and dig this thread up for anyone else that is considering a larger tank. I bought a single floor jack rated for 15000lbs and 2x6's to brace up the floor for safety. WHen I set up the jack I just tightened up by hand purposely to see if the joists would flex. I filled the tank up with about 100lbs of sand and all the water. Went down to check on the jack and it was still hand tight. Nothing budged an 1/8" even. It is sitting in the corner of 2 load bearing walls. Just figured I'd give an update in case it may help someone else out someday.
