im running into the same problem....I have a 150 gallon with 2 retics and a 8" aro..a buddy of mine gave me a magnum 350 for free cause he wasnt using it and i would looooooooooove to add something more filtration....what do ya guys suggest, another canister or sump..the tank isnt drilled for a sump and there is no overflow...Im a little hesitant on the sump given the chance of flooding...any advice would be great!!! thanks.

you have way too little filtration...put at least another fx5 on there or something...

sumps are cheaper then running the multi fx5 and ac110's. I don't know why people keep running to inferior filtration when they can build a decent sump for under $500. The larger the sump the more total water volume for your aquarium, you can have all your heaters in the sump. The more water you have the more stable the system is. Also you can add carbon, or flosses for great mecanical/chemical filtration, and you can have the best biological filtration out there. I always put my money on sumps for tanks over 75 gallons even.

I understand im underfiltered, thats why im asking...money kinda sucks but I can do anything DIY..fx5's are not an option at this point..as far as a sump, i can do that, but my question is how big of one will I need given the size tank that I have?? Im also kind of limited on space with the stand that i have, now given that, any advice???? :D

probably because they might have already had the HOB's and canisters to begin with.

eg. with my 150, I already had an XP3 and the AC110.

so all I did was buy another XP3 (which is not too expensive) and I am good to go.

fully loaded twin XP3's + an AC 110 can handle a huge bioload..

granted, not as much as a big sump, but I didn't have to get another tank (the sump), pump, drill the tank, setup return lines etc etc.
