I have a 150 that I really want to move into the living room. The house was built in the 30's, has really thick old school floor joists. The wall I want to put it in sits on a foundation wall but the floor joists run parallel to the way the tank will sit. Basically the tank will sit on 2 joists long ways. Will this floor be able to hold my tank? If it's confusing I can try to explain a little better.

Sure the floor will hold, but very bad idea to run parallel to the joists.

I would not even bother to try putting that much weight parallel to only two joists.

it will probably hold but may sag over time, which, depending on how it affects the stand/tank, could lead to a cracked tank and a massive, expensive flood.

is there anywhere else you could put the tank where the tank will be perpendicular to the joists?

Don't do it. My 125 is on the second floor (which was only constructed 4 years ago) and its leaning pretty severely. It leans 1-2inches to the left... the bomb goes tick tick...

If the floor joists were perpendicular to the tank I bet it would be just fine, but unfortunately for me they are parallel with the length of the tank.

And you still have the tank set-up? If my tank was leaning 1-2" in any direction I would be draining it and re-thinking my tank placement. 125g of water on the second floor doesn't seem like a fun mess to clean up.

Despite my instincts....yea, it is still setup. I really wish we would have gone threw with the plans of reinforcing the floor during construction, unfortunately we did not.
tick tock

How far down the joist is the tank going to be located? The closer the tank is to the middle of the joist between supports the worse it is. If there is a crawl space underneath you may be able to to reinforce the joists that will be taking the load.

It is in a corner of foundation walls. Again, house was constructed in the early 30's and the timber is a legit 2"x6", when houses were built "right" I can't put it perpendicular the joists because of the way my living room is set up. If it's any other way it just woudn't make any sense at all and would make the toom look extremely small. :(

I don't think so. that tank when full of water, substrate and decor will weigh about 1800 pounds. to place it longitudinal on only two joists is a potential disaster.

if you can only put a tank parallel to the joists in that room, I would look at something much smaller and lighter for this spot, and leave the 150 where it is now.
