150 gallon cichlid compatability questions/opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
personaly i think the jags aggressionis way over hyped, yes you can have killers but the will be a killer in most fish......hmmm killer keyhole:0 lol
i have a jag which is about 3-4inch and i put a gt with him and the gt pwned him, and the gt was stressed as he was getting beat by my JD. also i no that people have there jas with firemouth, which ia going to do with mine if it works out. i have also seen alot of jd,jag,gt combos so i would say yo could have a gt,jag,jd and oscar in a 150.
and about the green texas i have one whos housed with swordtails and danios....hes a softy up to now and he was getting pwned my my jd and my redtailed black shark:) realy i would say try it out and if it doesnt work put the jag in the 75 alone and move the gt and sev with the oscar thats what iam doing.
GL and we need pics when you've set up

hmm thats a good idea. (david fc)

I heard fluval canisters like over flowed and crap, at least thats what a lot of people told me.

I am thinking of maybe just trying the jag idea and then if it doesn't work I will give him some solitary confinement. (75 gallon)

So an oscar a couple severums and a green terror is fully stocked in a 150?

That's definitely stocked cichlid-wise. Instead of cichlids, you could add a few silver dollars or other hearty dither target fish. A male jag and an oscar would be much better in a 180+. My Jag is ok with certain fish and goes ape-sh*t on others. I don't know why he hates some fish and not others...it's just trial and error with him.

Fluvals make a good filter in the FX5 but I've heard previous Fluvals weren't all that great.

alright thanks.

Last question.

How are snooks with oscars?

I know they get bigger, but they seem pretty passive.

My LFS has a breeder pair and the male is just gorgeous and its gotta be at least a foot and a half it could swallow my arm. Anyway they have an over abundance of them and they are only about 10 bucks for some 4 inch ones.

My snooks are 5", like to have the security of some cover. They are slender body and there mouth is not built like other cichlids. They may do OK but I have yet to mix mine with any other cichlids.

i would go for oscar,gt,2-4severums i think you could add more cichlid maybe nics?sajicas? or fm's? they would all work with your cichlids:) if you wanted to add more get smaller dithers like gaint danios, silver dollers grow huge.
not sure about snooks, ive never kept them. i now they have huge mouths tho.
i say trail and errors the est way to go about it.

i want sajicas soooo bad i cant get them.

I call fish stores asking for t bar cichlids, or sajicas, then they start telling me there is no such thing as a t bar cichlid. I just get frustrated so I agree so I can hang up.

They seem liek the perfect fish. Not too big, but you can watch them grow. They aren't real aggressive, but they aren't delicate like a discus or something. They are colorful and males have that nuchal hump that huge cichlids usually get.

I might just put the jag in the 75 by himself then if he cant behave. I will do the sevs, oscar, green terror, maybe a salvini and sajica(s). (in the big tank)

I think I will get 2 fluval filters because I like that wet dry one I am just afraid I will break it since I am pretty filtration retarded...I made a sponge filter once!

Oh and with canister filters do I have to worry when the power goes out that it will syphon all this water out and just like overflow or is that with sumps and ****?

do you live in the UK? if so ive got atleast 80+, 30+at 0.5-.75" and some which are 2weeks old. anyone else in the uk too wants some just drop a PM:)

Ha I wish I lived in the UK! Not solely for the reason of your sajicas, but because I really want to live in the UK in general. Great skate scene, cool people, different lifestyle, the best music-Oh the list does go on.

anyways, sorry I wish I could take your sajicas off your hands I really do.

But I do have a question for you then. How are sajicas aggression compared to other cichlids. Like 1-10-1 being discus and 10 being dovii

personly i would say a mear 4:) they defend there fry, as any other cichlid. mine are with bigger blue acaras, bigger fm, redtailed black sharks, breeding pair of kribs, SAE and BLACK NEON TETRAS lol i got give them when my dad got rid of his tank to get a new marine tank. the sajicas handle the others with ease, they sometimes have scraps and get/give other fish split fins but there cichlids, they take up half the tank which is a 55.
if you can get them, dont think just pay:) you wont regret it. i have 1 tiro and 1 male growing out. love them they have awesome colours and personality:headbang2 .
i wouldnt mind living in the USA only bacause of the GIRLS:D :naughty:  and your fishing is cool but it sucks that you have to be 21 to drink:ROFL:
but realy iam surprized that there so rare in the states there semi rare here but it varies location to location:nilly:
