Paul's co-worker here. Since Musk turtles don't grow too large (5-6" max), the waste isn't any worse than any medium-larger sized cichlid.
The sump has 25 liters of Kaldness K1 for beneficial bacteria and Paul has a light running 24-7 to farm algae in the sump, the water parameters are all in great shape and there is plenty going on to handle a much larger bio-load.
We want to really get the water in the tank to a crystal clear polish, unfortunately, I don't think the pool filter sand was washed as well as we could have so the fish moving things around can kick up a minor haze. Have any of you run a 200 micron sock in a 50 micron sock? Wondering if that may do the trick.
