Im wanting to put a 150 gallon in my house. It will be on the first floor but theres a basement under that. Were I want to put it will be going with the joists instead of across them. Is this possible and if so what will I have to do for the floor to support it.

What kind of information would be helpful. I know the floors are natural wood the house was made in the 20's the joists in the basement are I would say 2 x 8s not sure I'm at work but could measure them tonight. Were I want to set the tank now there's a 75 there right now and like I said its running with the joists instead of laying over top them so its prob only hitting two instead of more then that. I could put it on another wall to were it would lay over top the joists instead of running with them but it would be a load bearing wall.

I ment to say that it wouldn't be a load bearing wall sorry can't find the edit button I'm on my phone at work so kinda sneeking around to post

4 footer or a 6 footer ? Pics of the underfloor ?

One thing I say online were these things called basement floor jacks there an adjustable pole with a plate on each side I could locate were the tank was then put a few of those poles on the joists there sitting on. There like 20 bucks a piece and can hold 18000 pounds we don't use the basement for nothing cause it leaks a little when it rains real bad so it wouldn't matter if there were a few jacks down there. What do you guys think. Ill get thoses pics on here as soon as I can tonight

yah ive never heard of those but they might be alright. i was going to say if you dont use or it wouldnt be in the way you could just rig up some 4x4 stature witha couple of long pieces for extra support but those by the sounds of it would have the same effect. ive never had to do this, there are people that have had the same problem on here though so hopefully they will chime in. but i know some structural designs of floors are pretty solid and can hold there own against 125-180 gallons but it takes an extremely well built floor in the first place. the guy i bought my 225 off of had it on the second story of a house with a basement beneath but those floors were extremely sturdy, then he moved into his current house which had just 2x6 layed out floors and wasnt worth working with so he sold the tank. meanwhile he some how has a 120 still set up in the new house.

My floors may be stirdy enought but I'm not really wanting to chance it. When I get home and post tose pics ill post a link to the jacks I'm talking about also. I'm pretty sure they will do the job the only thing in not sure about is were the tank will be sitting. I would like to set it were my 75 is sitting but the joists run the same direction as the tank is sitting. If I set it on this other wall the joists would be running the opposite way so the weight would be distrubtated among more joist but I don't really want it setting there. With the jacks though I don't know if it would really make a difference since most of the weight would be tranfered to the concreate slab in the basement anyways
