That looks like an easy to make background, but I prefer the styrofoam with mortar and paint look myself.

Copper is very bad for several plants also. Many newer homes have eliminated the use of copper tubing. My house doesn't have any, and runs all PVC, ABS, Cellcore, galvi and pex.
