150g Aquarium Sump Advice

I am doing the same thing this weekend. I have a 150 and setting up a 55 as the sump. A canister filter will bring the water from the main tank to the sump. In the canister will be ammonia,nitrite,and nitrate reducing pads. Then it will go to the sump over bio balls and a rock bed into the planted section and back the the main tank.

IMO if water clarity is your concern you need to focus on several stages of mechanical filtration, depending on how often you're willing to clean it. I'd go for a pre-filter of some sorts (sponge, floss, or even a coarse filter sock of 2-300 microns) then perhaps 100 micron socks followed by something really fine like 10 micron.
