The financial stress of buying the bigger tank goes away in a few paychecks... the benefits of buying the bigger tank last a lifetime...

very true.

the biggest cost is start up. its all relatively cheap after that.

water and utilities are not very much.

fish food is generally cheap, so are the fish.

its the initial investment that is the killer.

go as big as you can.

Street Fish,

Do you have an update on the 155 Gal Bowfront from the Craig's List ad? Did you decide against it? If so why?

I can agree that the price listed on it is not the best deal in the world, but if it is exactly what you want and is in like new condition, then it's still a much better deal than buying a new one.

In my world I cannot justify paying the higher cost of a brand new bowfront. I would prefer to get a larger rectangle tank if such funds were available. But I would rather have the used Bowfront 155 than a new rectangle 125 at the same price (assuming the used tank is in like new condition).

I agree with you - I have been thinking of offering $500 delivered...

It seems the guy is trying to recover the money he spent on the brand new FX5... even though it's no longer brand new... even though he overpaid on it...

You can get a brand new one now for just over $200...

Offer $500 and see what he says... if he counters too high explain the currect cost of the filter... negotiate... if his final offer is too high walk away and buy the cheaper brand new 125 gal...

you could get a 220g standard glass tank brand new + some accessories for the same price as the brand new 155 bow.

thats the problem I have with the added expense of the bowfronts.

you pay a lot for the fact that the glass is curved rather than paying for the capacity like you do with standard tanks..

The 155 is a amazing tank and pretty wide in the middle it is a for sure good looking tank no matter the set up. My room mate has one and I have a 72" 125 and I am totally jelous.
