my 16" marbled motoro has lost interest in food and I have noticed he is loosing his fat tail. I don't want to say it, but i think I can start to see his pelvic bones. He has been in this tank for two years and i haven't introduced any new fish in 6 months and never feed live food. Water quality is perfect. I have had some recent problem with one of my fish killing others in the tank just not sure which fish is doing the killing. It could be stress but no one ever messes with the ray. Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to get him to accept food.

Is the ray showing any other symptoms besides just not eating? Is there a chance a dead fish or uneaten food is in your filters? I would do a real thorough cleaning of the substrate and filters and maybe do a light rinse of your bio media. Prazi Pro does a great job at jump starting a rays appetite but I would not add it if there is another under lieing problem.

hey man im still new to the rays too but theres sum good guys in the section, they'll help u out. But just to get the questions out of the way they are prolly going to ask wuts perfect water conditions? give ur exact measurements on everything. and also wut was the rays diet?

wht fish are in the tank?

any small wounds on the ray? he might be getting picked on at night...

How is the breathing? Like zoodiver said it's a stress issue. Now the only thing is did it cause a secondary problem with you ray ex. gill fluke outbreak
What are you feeding? Has that changed?
Start with removing the aggresive tank mates if you can and then up the water changes for a bit to start.

What else is in the tank? Any other males? Big angry hungry ladies?

Everytime I've went through an established ray loosing appetite it's either been stress related or something Prazi fixed. Usually stress.

Some say I'm quick to jump the gun but with as safe as Prazi is I know what would be happening if in my possesion..... Isolation (seperate with divider) and Prazi after a thorough cleaning of mechanical media and huge WC.

Hope he gets better!!!!! Please keep us updated.

Def a nice ray... If it's the one I'm thinking of it's one of the bigger male Marbles around.... I know he dwarfed most males I've ever had. Miss that guy.

so I awoke yesterday to my rays tail being nipped and the back part of his disc. Removed my ornate bichir immediately thinking he was the problem. then shuffled my ray so i could get his underside visible against the tank and well not pretty. I should have taken a look sooner. bad infection. spreading to good tissue. put him in a isolation tank but by then he was on the way out as I could see him starting his death curl. by this morning he was dead. disappointing. 18" beautiful ray. He was my favorite. question. I do 50% water changes every week and keep excellent water quality. possibly he started to get a slight infection from a small tail wound..? but i didn't notice anything. not introducing any new fish or any live food. and no other fish showing any signs of infection. how could this occur?
