I know you mention convicts and i wouldnt do that. Give them a couple of months and you will be looking for something to eat them. I like the native idea. A pair of oscars would be cool too.

Yeah, I know. But if I get smaller CA cichlids like sajicas or cutteri, those are always in demand on aquabid, so I could easily sell off the juveniles. Maybe get like 5 adult pairs to start off with depending on the size of the cichlid. Firemouths are also a possibility. If I do that I'll probably end up throwing in a few pairs of adult swordtails to spice things up and act as dithers and a constant source of live food (swordtail fry).

sorry bro, no can do. Pikes are not only illegal in CA, but looking at pics on google, that thing is a beast of a thing. I don't think I'd want to put my feet in my own pond with that thing in it lol, not that it would even fit in it lol
