First off- Thank you to everyone for the wonderful compliments. It is much appreciated!
Look closely at the pictures of the eggcrate before they are covered in vegetation. They islands sight on legs about 12 inches tall, because that is the height that I wanted the water area.
Duckweed did become a problem so I stuck a goldfish in the tank that ate every last piece- that fish is my hero!
Lights are all t-5 and I dose ferts and feed heavily daily. The stingrays have removed all my aquatic plants but the land plants have put roots into the water column and feed heavily off the ferts and keep the water cleaned. If I remove the extra ferts some of the land plants will take a hit. I also apply CO-2 to the system to keep the PH steady and algae down.
No but I did want one.

I know you used the egg crates to make the cave. But how did you keep the land suspended so the ground was 100% accessable to the fish?
Second what determined the height at which you kept the water?
But great job with the tank, just an amazing setup. like everyone has said just a dream setup. The live plants up top just put the icing on the cake for me as the best tank i have ever seen, amazing man

how do you keep the duckweed and other plant material out of the water's filtration system?? Also, how much and what type of ferts/lights are you using? Your setup makes us all thirsty for this knowledge.![]()
