So it begins. I have room for a 6*2*2 aquarium and I have asked my LFS which sells used equipment to keep an eye out for a 180 or 210 gallon aquarium. In the meanwhile, I am starting the build. The goal is to not require a center brace in the front. The plan is to laminate four 2*6 together for the front rail, and two for the rear rail. The rear rail will have a center brace. Eight 2*6 on end will support the weight of the top. Everything secured with glue and 3" deck screws.

I bought a 20# CO2 canister, so the interior of the stand will be about 30 inches to ensure room for it. Eventually, I'll deck out the interior with some Leads and put Plexi with strong magnets on the front, so I can see the sump and other equipment, but still reduce noise.

Thanks, after 10 years of woodworking, that saw was/is my dream tool. Wife even gave me the whole 3 car garage for my shop.

So we trimmed the rounded corners off of the boards, and made the base and the top. Probably have to wait until next weekend to add the legs.

Nice stand, how do you like normal straight holes vs pocket holes, i have built my previous stands similar way, but looking to build one for 240 using pocket holes.

I am a big fan of pocket holes (Most of this stand is actually pocket holes). I set the jig to assume 3/4" boards, then drilled them out on both sides. In the end, the screws hold the wood in place while glue dries. Once a quality glue dries it is stronger than the wood itself. If the goal is not to use glue, then I am using straight holes with the longest screw I feel comfortable pre-drilling.

Who can wait for the weekend? Well neither could I. Bought some more lumber yesterday and milled it up after work. Cut all the supports today and it is coming along. I have 10 more 2*6 supports to add, 2 at each corner, and 2 along the back.
