Keep in mind you must match your return pump to the overflow... there is no use having a larger return pump if your current return pump will max out your intakes/overflows... I would set up what you have and if you find your current pump to be lacking, then upgrade...

That rocks about finding the acrylic sheets/pieces.

It is a good fact to know that silicone will not strongly adhere to acrylic. Thus you would never want to use silicone to glue acrylic pieces together to make an aquarium.

But, since you aer not trying to glue pieces of acrylic together to make an aquarium, you are only siliconing baffles in place in an already securely watertight box... The silicone will hold the acrylic baffles in place just fine in the glass aquarium... although it might not stick to the plastic sidewalls of the rubbermaid container well enough to brace the baffles in it...

There are adhesives that are designed specifically for plastic/acrylic that (chemically) melt the plastic/acrylic allowing them to bond into a single pice when the ahesive "dries". Just make sure you don't put it on so thick it melts a hole in the side of the rubbermaid.

I have used plastic/acrylic adhesives, but never on a rubbermaid tote, so I'm not exactly sure what you should expect...
Toby maybe i should just get onother glass tank for the other instead of tote probly just be easier!

Well... it would make securing the baffles easier...

But if you use the design approach in the illustration I posted on page one... it utilizes a hole drilled in the side fo the tank. It will be easier to drill a hole in the Rubbermaid than in the glass tank...

Like everything in life... there are pros and cons to each...

lol

I've never drilled a tank personally but I know a few local friends who have. They say that super thin glass is the hardest (5 & 10 gals) and thick glass has the challenge of making sure you do not cock the bit in mid drilling...

But the mid range tanks, like the sizes you are suggesting, are the easiest...

I'll go ahead and assume you know to use a diamond tipped bit ;)

Wrong !!!!! Oh well i will look for an acrylic tank to suit the needs so i can drill it as i am limited on space to 34x23x23 and want to have room to get in there to service it.The first one will be a tote with trays for mechanical and some Bio.Heres a couple pics of me bein a dummy!!! Not only bein a dummy but a stubborn Dummy to boot:irked:

Ouch... You can over come this. Good Luck.

Ok Toby so i tried not only once but twice. The second tank the guy assured me is was not tempered but you can see the pic so i went and bought a used acrylic sump toby let me know what you think of it if i need to modify or it's just fine.Every baffle has a 1 inch opening in the bottom.could i just stuff coorse sponge in those openings and fine matt? what do you recomend.Or should i plug those and trim the tops of the baffles ?The black square in behind the sump is a big chunk of coarse sponge inch and a half thick. This ones for the Refugium.
