My 180 gallon tank broke that was the tank i was going to put the fish i have been growing out at least that was the plan if the fish were going to tollerate each other. I have been growing out a very nice blackbelt and a stunning little trimac. Now im not sure what im going to do. I have them both in a 75 now that i have put lots of wood in for some places for the trimac to retreat. He is smaller than the blackbelt. Not able to get my hands on another big tank just yet. I dont want to get rid of any of them but i might have to. The black belt is 7 inches maybe thats with his tail. ? Is if i do get rid of one just for the well being of the fish which one do i keep in the 75. Long term not forever just till i feel its time for a bigger tank. I do lots of water changes there not the biggest water changes but i do them every other day at leastt 30%. So i do care for the fish properly. But its a hard decision. Which would u keep. Keep in mind i looked for a good trimac for at least 5 yrs and i finally got a good one. Sorry so long just bummed about the bigger tank. Which fish do i keep20180812_155238.jpg

The one you feel is irreplaceable. Or get another 75g or bigger and split them till you can get a bigger tank.

What exactly happened to the 180?

Only you can make that choice, personally I would keep the blackbelt, very few big males in the hobby.

Personally I would get rid of them both and find something that can live for a long time in a 75.
Both of those fish will out grow that tank in not much more than a year.

I no they r going to out grow the 75 thats y i had the 180. I will be able to get another one or maybe even a little bigger. I have room for a 8 foot tank but i no that i wont be getting one of those for quite e time. Finding another tank wont be hard it will just take a few months. I just dont want them getting to stressed. And yes i have thought about getting rid of both of them to be honest. But i wont be giving the to a lfs and i dont no alot of people that will take good care of them. I thought a 180 would be a decent size tank for them for along time. I no at some point down the road i would be keeping just one of them but there still young fish. I guess i was just looking to see what other people thought if they were in my same postion. Blackbelt nice male or trimac nice male. Which one would be the one to keep for life. And Stan i love your tanks i have thought about going with smaller cichlids and groups of live bearers. Your tanks r abuslutely stunning u r the man. I enjoyed all the bigger cichlids u have kept to.

I was growing the fish out in smaller tanks plan was to move them both to the 180 soon. The 180 was sitting on the floor in garage. One of my kids left a skate board out in the drive way. The garage door was opened a couple feet not all the way and kicked the skateboard into the garage underdoor not thinking about the tank on the ground and that was the end of that tank. Dumb mistake but in the moment just rolling it in to the garage to get it out of the must have seemed like the thing to do at the time boy i was wrong.

Personally if they are not at eachother I would keeps both and get another big tank. Once aggression becomes an issue you can divide then decide at that time what to do. If you had to search for so long for that trimac I would not get rid 9f him. The black belt is also really cool fish

So are they cohabiting nicely now? How long do you think before you can replace or fix the big tank?
