Personally if they are not at eachother I would keeps both and get another big tank. Once aggression becomes an issue you can divide then decide at that time what to do. If you had to search for so long for that trimac I would not get rid 9f him. The black belt is also really cool fish

So are they cohabiting nicely now? How long do you think before you can replace or fix the big tank?
Yes they r doing good together but the blackbelt is bossy. He is the king ass of now. But they r doing well.i fill like in a large tank they will do great. Love thesw fish want to keep them both. And i think give a fish back to a store is maybe the worst thing i could do. Who knows how lo g it will be there in a small tank who knows who will buy it. I take great care of my fish and the common person going in to a pet store i feel wont be up to my standards. I should have a larger tank in a few months or if i see the start of bad aggression.

I should have a larger tank in a few months or if i see the start of bad aggression sooner.

I would keep them both and divide the tank, if you think you can get a new one in a few months. If you think it'll be longer than that maybe pick your favorite. I would probably go trimac, but blackbelts are very nice as well. good luck

I no they r going to out grow the 75 thats y i had the 180. I will be able to get another one or maybe even a little bigger. I have room for a 8 foot tank but i no that i wont be getting one of those for quite e time. Finding another tank wont be hard it will just take a few months. I just dont want them getting to stressed. And yes i have thought about getting rid of both of them to be honest. But i wont be giving the to a lfs and i dont no alot of people that will take good care of them. I thought a 180 would be a decent size tank for them for along time. I no at some point down the road i would be keeping just one of them but there still young fish. I guess i was just looking to see what other people thought if they were in my same postion. Blackbelt nice male or trimac nice male. Which one would be the one to keep for life. And Stan i love your tanks i have thought about going with smaller cichlids and groups of live bearers. Your tanks r abuslutely stunning u r the man. I enjoyed all the bigger cichlids u have kept to.
Thanks that's very nice of you to say.

I still stand by what I said about moving them on. I don't mean to be negative but the reality is, if left un divided, one will kill the other before long. If you divide the tank both fish will have a very small area to live in. If this is a very temporary situation, then fine, try it.
Both of those species grow fast. If you divide them I would say they would need bigger tanks within 6 months.
Like I said, I'm not being negative for no reason. Just trying to save you some grief further down the road.
I don't think you could keep them together for long even in a 180.
Both species can become very aggressive especially trimacs.
Good luck whatever you decide.
