Hi, I'm Mark and I'm from Holland.
I'm new to the forum but not to fishkeeping.

Recently I've bought a 180gal.
Water and everything is fine (ammonia & nitrite=0, nitrate around 10).
I have an all male tank, 2x Green Terror, 2x Jack Dempsey, 2x Convicts and 1 Vieja Synspila and 1 Gibbiceps.
My problem is the Gibby waste, it's not really the water that gets dirty but it just looks disgusting. So what can I do about this, maybe just getting rid of the Gibby? Also how many decent size Americans (+-10inch) would fit in a 180 gal without overstocking?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark! Welcome to MFK! There is soo much knowledge here so enjoy!

The pleco's are well known for the amount of waste they produce and unfortunately theres not much you can do about it... Unless you decide to get rid of him and replace with something else that stays smaller so the waste seems less... Or.... do the removale of poop thing you are reffering to. You'll be there all day...

As to how many big guys to fit in a 180g?? Depending on size of fish currently. In the full size state? 4-5 comfortably. If you can remove the doubles of what you have. It will help with aggression.

Most of you're current stock are very conspecific which won't help you in the long run...

Good luck! Enjoy you're stay! LOL And post pix!!:headbang2

don't ditch the gibby..... just increase WC or at least gravel vacuum lots

Got a 180Gl running with a central-heater-pump.and i pumps upto3ooo Liter/h.
Got a pond-airaetor with 4
airstones and this keeps the waist lower. But I feed them more than a zuchinni a week so I still have to vacuum to bottom to keep things aestetic!!!
Would never give up my plecos!:D

I dont' really wanna get rid of him, but I already change 20-25% + gravel vacuum twice a week, but the next day the gravel is covered with waste again.

What is your filtration like on the tank?

Welcome and enjoy, you will never have to look for another answer on the web these guys (and girls) know everything

I have 2 eheim 2080's running, but it's not the water quality.. it just looks like i don't maintain the aquarium

i know, but what i do is in the back corner i have a power head just above the gravel that n put into such an angle that it blows all the gunk and waste to my inlet of my sump and then i have the outlet of my sump in the other corner @ the top and the fx5 blows the water into the tank just above the power head so my water is constantly circling (if you know what im trying to say) and this seems to help allot

Yea I get it,, thanks, sounds like a good plan.

About the stocking. So I am actually overstocked since orbit said 4-5? That's funny because I've been searching the forums about stocking and sometimes I see people who have like 15 cichlids in a 180..?
