Okay guys, i've been trying to get out of the Big mean aggressive cichlid hobby, but i can't. My (cousin's) wild Freddies have paired up in his 125 and they kicked the rest of the Freddies out, and they're doing all the pre-spawning behavior. Holy Moses i miss my cichlids. When i saw the look on their faces while they were lip-locking i got a feeling i haven't had since i first discovered how easy the girls at my high school are... I need some cichlids. So.....
I'm debating selling off all my "monsters" and using the big tank for a breeding pair of cichlids. But this is only if i can find the right fish:
-I just want a breeding pair in the tank, with some dithers like apollo sharks/redhooks or something and some cool catfish. No "community of cichlids" because i can never get that to work.
-I don't want anything that's gonna need to be kept seperated. They need to be big enough to fill out the tank yet not look/be crowded.
-Obviously something that's really attractive, i like blues and high contrasting patterns.
I know this narrows it down to very few fish, but i'm very picky with my cichlids, and our water (8ish pH) knocks out all the SA fish, otherwise i'd already have some festae.
My favorite genus of cichlids are Vieja and Parachromis, but i don't really like Amphilophus's looks. There also needs to be a market for the fish. I know i'm not gonna make any money, i just wanna be able to get rid of the fry. I'm gonna buy some younger wild or F1 fish, and price really isn't much of an issue if i like the fish.
I'm sorry for writing a novel, but i like to get all the info out in one post, so i have as few questions as possible to answer.
So is there anything that fits these qualifications?
Thanks,
Will
