Well, I have racked up thousands of frequent flier miles when it comes to searching through the MFK forum. I figure it is about time I cash some of them in and start my own thread. I've had this 180 for a number of years now. It has seen it all. As of late, I have found myself getting into the whole central american thing and I am really enjoying it. I've always been a rocks and sand guy. Now, I am a rocks, sand, and driftwood guy. I really like the look driftwood brings to a setup.
Cutting to the chase, here are the specs on my setup, let me know what you's think.
180 gallon with corner internal overflows dropping down to a DIY wet dry filter. The background is DIY, I have built a number of these in the past using several methods and I find this to be the most realistic. Sand for substrate, river rocks for effect. Threw in several choice pieces of driftwood. Yes, the plants are fake. My wife likes the green and I can't keep a aquatic plant alive to save my life, so fake it is. I'm particularly pleased with how my cave came out. On the right side I placed about a 4 foot log and on the backside of the log I installed a raised piece of styrofoam between the log and the background. Now, I have a cave and a second level covered in gravel, of which my pair of vieja synspillum are using as a spawining site. As for stock, all of which but the firemouth and cories came from Jeff Rapps. I have some A.multispinosa, some A.centrarchus, some V.synspillum, 3 firemouths(soon to be evicted and replaced with a group of HRP's). Also, there are six emerald cories. The herd will be thinned as things grow up and out. Anyhow, now some pics. I am no photographer.
