180 Gallon CA tank setup

Thanks for the compliments. The background was cheap. I made it with styrofoam and paint. Oh, and tons and tons of carving to get the most realistic look that I could produce. I have since greatly improved upon my carving andCopy of Backgrounddetails3 (1 of 1).jpg painting technique. I feel that the rock that I make now look much better and much more realistic than the background in the 180. In the tank I was going for a mud/rock kind of shorline and I am pleased with the outcome.

Here is a shot of the cave that I created. It sits on the right side of my tank. The log that I used is about 4 foot long. Between the log and the background I installed a raised piece of styrofoam. On top of the styro I have gravel and a few fake plants for effect. It makes for a fairly large cave. I am very pleased with the effect.

The cave is usually very dark, which I prefer. The camera just makes it appear much lighter. The smaller log that is visible in the background contains a smaller access to the cave, a detail I am pretty proud of.

In this particular background I just used drylok with some tints to give contrast. Did the job, not quite as detailed as I prefer but it works.

Great job!
