180 gallon cracked!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm curious why it cracked to begin with.

Is the stand level?
Is the stand true? i.e. 90deg corners everywhere
Are the supports supporting the tank sagging?
Do you have stryofoam under the stand/tank to absorb irregularities?

Where you are now sucks big time, but imagine having the replacement tank crack also!

The stand is level, added extra 2x4 under the stand to help support the stand. I didn't put styrofoam under the tank though. IF i even can get a replacement tank or replacement pane of glass, should i put styrofoam under the tank? how thick should the styrofoam be?

They sell it at petco and other LFS it basically levels the tank incase its off by a little

Glass tanks need thicker stryofoam because only the bottom rim of the tank is supporting the entire weight of the tank. This means the 1" or so wide strip around the rim has a >LOT< of pressure on it. The stryofoam will compress quite a bit. I'd say 3/4" minimum.

Plexi tanks on the other hand have the weight supported/spread across the entire bottom of the tank. The stryofoam won't compress at all. 1/4" should be plenty.

YMMV Good luck :)

how much worry is there about this with a 75?

The worry is always there. The diff is big tank=big mess, smaller tank=smaller mess.
Sorry for your luck Fan.Probably cheaper to replace the pane, than get a new tank.
