AC110's are still a mech filter. Same with the FX5. I would get one good mech filter, and one good bio filter. Eheims pro 3's and pro 3e's are both great bio filters. FX5's are great mech filters, but are very energy inefficient, and heavy. I'd run dual AC110s and a pro 3 or pro 3e. If you want to go cheaper, an eheim pro 2 2028 and AC110s would also do well.

O I'm sorry about that I thought that Aquaclears were good for Bio filtraion:( Thanks for the clear up.

Well there are many combos you can go with, I think wyldya has the best suggestion with the 2 AC110s and the Eheim cannister. What would benefit you most though is to get the new filters as soon as you can and replace the filters that you are gonna sell with your 75g. This way when the time comes to setup the new 180g you will already have cycled filters.

Don't get me wrong, of HOB filters AC's are quite good, but without the biowheel they aren't nearly as good at bio as they are at mech. Foam is generally used as a mech filtration media.

I run a Magnum 350 with Bio max in it and on the discharge I have a 25W UV. My main filter is a wet – dry Sump. All this runs my over stocked 125 Gal. Water crystal clear all the time.

I would get a Ocean Clear 354 polybead filter with a Iwaki external pump, with the return split by a tee, so you have one return at each end of the tank. Quiet, efficient, incredible amounts of bio, and mech. filtration in one unit. You can even hook a water hose to the filter, run it out the door, turn 3 valves, and backflush the filter while draining water from the tank at the same time, making water changes a snap.

i like the sound of them babbys:drool:

I have a 180g, i use 1 x ac 110, 18 w uv light, and a w/d (about 30 gallon total sump size, about 12 g worth of bioballs) pump is a rio 32F

i have 5 datnoids, 3 bichirs, arowana, parrot, 2 pleco, clown loach. half of my fish are pretty large in size. They eat every day.

bare tank, Water is clear. I do regular water changes about 40% every week.

I would go with 2x rena XP3's or 2x Eheim 2217. I have the 2217s on my 150 gal planted, and just got an XP3 for my 55gal cichlid tank. Both are pretty nice.

By the way, I got the XP3s for 74.99+tax with a pricematch and the internet coupon at petsmart. Do a google search for "rena xp3" and it should pop up on top. It's good thorugh 5/25/07.
